R.Kelly explique la conception de la chanson: « On est allé au studio, il a écouté une idée de chanson. Je l’avais chantée en imitant sa voix au mieux que je pouvais. Cela lui a plus et il est venu à Chicago pour enregistrer. » La réponse de Michael: « Le texte était magnifique, Kelly est génial! »
Le 7 Septembre 1995, Michael Jackson est aux MTV Video Music Awards de New York et y interprète « You Are Not Alone » après une époustouflante chorégraphie de « Dangerous ».
Le 22 Septembre 1995, Michael Jackson interprète « You Are Not Alone » lors du 15ème anniversaire de la chaîne B.E.T dont le gala est réalisé au profit d’une association caritative, l’United Negro College Fund.
Le 1er Novembre 1995, lors de l’anniversaire des 25ans de l’émission musicale américaine « Soul Train », le programme diffuse un enregistrement spécial effectué la veille ou Michael Jackson interprète « You Are Not Alone ».
Lors du HIStory Tour, c’est sur cette chanson qu’une heureuse fan prise au hasard dans la foule pourra danser un slow avec Michael Jackson et garder ce souvenir à jamais !
